“There’s a tremendous gap between public opinion and public policy.”
- Chomsky (father of modern linguistics)
What is public policy in the first place? The word “public” stemmed from the Latin word “publicus” meaning “of the people”. The term “policy” comes directly from Middle English “policie” which translates to “the systems of the government”. The combination of the words results in systems of the government for the people. And just as Chomsky said, the majority of people no longer believe that the laws are as helpful and benevolent as they should be.
